Gluten Free... Celiac Disease or Gluten Sensitive?

It’s common knowledge that people who have been diagnosed with celiac disease should stay away from gluten. While this is nothing new, many people without celiac disease have recently been avoiding gluten as well. Many did so when they started displaying symptoms of gluten intolerance after eating the protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. These symptoms were puzzling to some doctors, as some believed that gluten intolerance was caused only by celiac disease. However, even without the trademark biomarkers indicative of celiac disease, many people have in fact experienced abdominal pain, bloating, depressed mood, and fatigue after eating gluten. As a result, supermarket shelves have been flooded with gluten-free products to keep up with the demand.
