Losing weight is hard, and many people seek a helpful guide to more quickly and easily traverse the difficult path to good health. But recent research shows that the wearable fitness trackers that catch many people’s eyes may not be the best solution. In 2016, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a study looking at the effects of fitness trackers on weight loss. One group in the study used fitness trackers while the other group self-reported their progress. While both groups in the study experienced improvements, those who self-reported their progress lost more weight on average than those who used a fitness tracker. What this study suggests is that if you’re trying to start a better diet and exercise regime, you may want to rely on more than one tool to ensure success.
